Most major search engines have a search for availability of your domain name, it's worth having a look at what's available, and if you’re stuck for ideas, there are 'name generators' that can give you a helping hand.

    Deciding on a .com or .co.uk - These days international search engines offer preference to .co.uk suffixes when listing 'sites in the uk,' followed by a UK IP address, absence of one or both of these will mean listings only appear on global search results. (Great if you are a global business, not so great if you have a .com hosted in the US to promote a UK business.)

    There is of course an ever growing number of other dot suffixes available including .me.uk .net .tv .gov  (generally local government sites) .edu (educational sites such as universities.) Again as long as the IP address is in the UK, a UK search engine listing should follow.

Length of domain name should be a consideration if you are using domain related e-mail addresses, so stay away from reallylongdomainname.co.uk!

You may be wondering why bother with the net? If you already advertise and promote you company. Well its a fact that the first point of call when someone hears of a company or requires a service they check it out on the net.
